To care for homeless, abused, neglected and abandoned animals, and educate the community to instill an increased awareness and commitment to the responsibility of animal ownership and protection.
Shelby Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1977 to care for unwanted cats and dogs in Shelby County, Alabama.
Who do you serve?
Primarily the unwanted domestic pets of Shelby County but also assist with other type animals at the request of law enforcement.
Increasing our live release rate year over year. Through innovative programs such as Shelter Partners and Safety Net Outreach. In January 2014 we met a milestone: the 10,000th owned pet was sterilized through our Quick Fix program!
Volunteers are needed for virtually every aspect of our organization. We need drivers for our Shelter Partners Program, Foster Homes, Adoption Ambassadors, Animal Enrichment. We have so many opportunities and needs that we’re sure we can match up an individual’s talents with a need.
Plans for the Future
Engage the community through various opportunities. Reduce the numbers arriving through our Outreach Programs. Work diligently to reach people who have unaltered pets in our county and offer assistance to change that.
