Nearly as soon as we launched Nonprofit Media Solutions in January, we began talking about how to pay it forward, a way to echo the good work being done each day by the nonprofits we hear and read about. We wanted to combine that appeal with something true to our own mission. What we came up with was We Heart Nonprofits, an online campaign where we highlighted one different nonprofit each day throughout the month of February. They were organizations making a big difference across the United States and Canada. As the questionnaires came in and we communicated with executive directors and marketing staff people, we got more excited to share all the good things going on. It was fun to wake up each morning and know that our online energy that day would be devoted to one organization and their cause. Spreading the word felt important, and we enjoyed the campaign.
As soon as February ended we started talking about the impact these organizations and their missions had on our thinking as a newly-formed organization, and we knew we wanted to host We Heart Nonprofits again, but we didn’t want to have to wait a whole year to do it. So September came along and we featured another 26 amazing nonprofits. It’s February again, and this time we’ll be focused on 30 nonprofits we didn’t promote last year: organizations that are new to us or ones we couldn’t fit into February. We’ve had quite a lot of interest but we’ve still got spots left to fill.
Do you know of a deserving nonprofit that could use some extra publicity? We want to hear about them, either via an introduction or simply a suggestion that we reach out to them. We want to be upfront and say that there are no strings attached for these 30 organizations. Besides giving us enough information to properly share them with those in our networks, there’s no obligation beyond that.
On each organization’s day we’ll push out their website, Facebook page, Twitter handle, YouTube channel, previous news coverage and any other publicity items they have to share through our social media channels and this blog. We’ll change our Facebook cover page to their image, as well as our profile picture.
We’re reaching out asking for help finding these nonprofits deserving of a little extra online boost. Which ones should we feature?
